Does gratitude fuel change?

As we enter the holiday season, Our Just Future wants to take a moment to thank our community.

We couldn’t provide the support to our community without the caring contributions of our community of neighbors, volunteers, partners, and donors. It truly does take a village to provide shelter, support families in need, create pathways to new opportunities, and help those who may have lost hope find a brighter future. We are deeply grateful to find ourselves in such good company.

At a time when the world may feel more divided, uncertain, and worrisome, we are thankful to be part of a community that embraces belonging, warmth, and opportunity for all. Your commitment to helping create a more just and inclusive future is a gift—one we are dedicated to ‘paying forward’ with everything we do.

We also want to offer a public shout out to our staff who are supporting, feeding, and loving individuals and families dwelling in one of our three shelters; you are true heroes!

Wishing everyone in our community ease, joy, and rest this holiday season.

Warmly,

All of us at Our Just Future

P.S. If you’re having your own ‘pay it forward’ moment, we’re always grateful for financial donations—they literally make our work possible.

Can you help by cooking for shelter residents?

Looking for a way to engage in your community from your kitchen? We’ve got just the thing! Cook for a Community Potluck at one of our shelters this month. It’s on Saturday, August 17th at our Gresham Women’s Shelter (in outer East Portland).

If you or a group (friend, church, family…) are able, please consider bringing a dish (or two!) so our residents can have a hearty and healthy meal!

See what’s needed and sign up here!

How our community potlucks work at our shelters:

  • You prepare a home-made dish for about 20 people (we combine it with dishes from other volunteers to create a delicious potluck meal that feeds a crowd!)
  • Sign up here to bring a dish on August 17th
  • Drop off on Saturday between 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Please deliver the food in disposable containers and bring any hot meals as close to 5:30 p.m. as possible – so they stay hot!

Please sign up to bring a dish – and invite a friend! This is a wonderful activity to do together with friends or family :-)

A word about food safety: protect friends, family, and yourself from illness by preparing safe food! You can find guidelines for safe food preparation here.
