The Board of Directors of Human Solutions, Inc. announced today that Andy Miller has been named Executive Director of the Human Solutions, effective July 13. He will succeed Jean DeMaster, who is retiring at the end of September. .
In announcing the appointment of Miller, Carla Piluso, chair of Human Solutions’ Board of Directors, stated “We are all extremely pleased to bring a tremendous leader to Human Solutions. Andy Miller has an outstanding record of achievement in housing and dealing with the issues of poverty in our community. He is committed to building on Human Solutions’ reputation as a leading human services provider. Even though no one can replace Jean DeMaster, Andy has the skills, talents, and personality to advance Human Solutions’ mission.”
Born and raised in New Rochelle, NY and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell Law School, Miller has lived and worked in Oregon since 1992. Miller’s employment history is diverse and far-reaching. He began his career as an attorney working on anti-poverty issues in legal services programs in Rochester, NY and Bend and Hillsboro, OR. He represented hundreds of clients in need of legal assistance to escape or prevent homelessness or other impacts of poverty. Miller added “This early experience, working directly with families and individuals accessing the justice system to secure or protect a home for their family, continues to inform my work and advocacy almost daily.”
Mr. Miller spent thirteen years with the City of Portland’s Housing Bureau, including Executive Leadership positions as the Bureau Operations Manager and Deputy Director. During his time with the City of Portland, Miller had a successful track record of developing, preserving and advocating for resources to fund effective community-based solutions for homelessness and the development of hundreds of units of affordable housing.
Most recently, Miller served as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Housing and Enterprise Operations with Volunteers of America Oregon.
